A couple of weeks ago my mother and I were browsing through some books at Goodwill. A young woman came in and asked one of the employees to help her find a book to read for a class assignment. She had been given the assignment to read a book of her choice and then answer questions about the book. The woman appeared to be in her late teens/early twenties and had never completed a book before, had no idea what kind of book she would like to read, and was clearly worried about the task at hand. I was torn between feelings of sadness that the woman had never experienced the joy of reading for pleasure, hopefulness that this assignment would open a whole new world for her, and perplexed about how someone could have no clue what subjects would bring them pleasure to read about.
It is my wish for you that you will take a little time to explore your likes and dislikes, curiosities, and maybe consult a few book reviews to ignite or rekindle a passion for reading. Reading is such a great way to pamper yourself. Browsing through books is part of the pleasure and then taking the time to sit down with a drink and a book for a session of reading lets the pampering continue for many more days.
Time spent with a good book can change our perspective. When we read, the world doesn’t seem to spin quite so fast and our worries seem to melt away.
Take time for yourself today. You deserve it!
