There is something special about making something with your hands. While you are working on your project, your mind can shut out the rest of the world and blissfully be focused on the task at hand. This can be such a stress reliever! When you see your progress, you feel a sense of accomplishment, and when the project is completed, you have the joy of sharing the project with others as well as the peace of knowing you completed a project.
Schedule some time this week to pick up an old project you’ve laid aside and make some progress toward completion. Don’t worry about doing a perfect job or having a deadline… just enjoy the process.
I was pondering on crafting this week and realized that I now enjoy a hobby that used to cause me a little stress. When I first began cake decorating years ago, I fretted over every little thing. Was the icing perfectly smooth so that no spatula marks showed? Was every
little decorative flourish perfectly matched with the others? And the writing on the cake……… oh how I dreaded that because I tried to form each letter perfectly and just about had a conniption doing so! My hands would tremble as I formed each letter.
But since I’ve decided to let the perfectionism go, I can now truly enjoy this hobby. It is play time for me now and I am at peace with what I once saw as imperfections. All that matters to me now is having a cake that tastes good, looks good (NOT perfect), and that
does not require hours of blood, sweat, and tears to complete. Each cake I bake now is a true joy for me to complete and I’ve been told they are a blessing to the receiver as well.
Let the perfectionism go and your hobby time will truly be a pampering session!
Take time for you. You are so worth it!
