All major Holidays are spent at my MIL’s, so I don’t have to worry about food shopping, cooking huge meals, or having every inch of the house ready for all that company. I am truly grateful for this and we contribute in some way to each of these celebrations (For example, my husband supplies all the pies for dessert at Thanksgiving dinner, usually this is somewhere between 8 -10 pies. He loves to bake and cook and takes care of all the shopping for these! I have no problem being the clean-up crew. LOL!) So, these parts of the Holiday CJ and Missions I don’t really worry about. I do make small food gifts for some family members, but the items to make these are bought alittle at a time with each shopping trip. I use the other parts of the Holiday CJ and Missions to get everything else taken care of; gifts bought and wrapped, the house decorated, cards ready to send and our family Christmas activities planned. Keeping up with myRoutines, Home Blessings, and Zone work is no problem and our Holidays run smoothly.
I kind of took all this for granted until I was diagnosed with pneumonia one year during the holidays. I was blessed not to have to be hospitalized (my Dr said it was a close call), but I was put on several medications. I remember very little about the next few days. It was a supreme effort to just get off the sofa to go to the bathroom. If I had waited until the last minute to do things our entire Christmas would have been completely ruined! The only thing that didn’t get done were the small food gifts I make. I usually set aside a few hours on Dec 23rd to make these so that they are fresh when I give them. We were still able to give our DDs, then 8 and 6 1/2, a wonderful Christmas without my husband having to run around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to pick up the slack. I was able to take care of myself and not have that nagging voice in my head say that I ruined Christmas for everyone!
This type of situation could happen to any Flybaby. I was very grateful that I had taken the Holiday CJ and Missions and tailored them to my family. I know that as my family grows and changes I can rework my Holiday CJ to fit us at any time. FlyLady, I would like to thank you and your Crew for all that you do for your Flybabies and I am proud to be counted among them.
Happy Holidays to all,
