Taking Care Of Yourself

Love YOUDear FlyLady,

I just wanted to share my story with you.  I finally took FlyLady’s message that “loving yourself means getting those appointments made” to heart.  My family acquired health insurance at the first of the year, so in February I made an appointment for a physical.

I hadn’t had a physical in almost 11 years.  On my first visit, my doctor had to ease me into everything and we did the general check up, drew blood, and scheduled me for my first mammogram.  Two weeks later, he brought me back in for test results and a pap smear.

Over the course of the past three months we discovered that I have a lump, but it’s not malignant.  I have an enlarged uterus, but it isn’t an issue at this time.  My white blood cell count is abnormally high so we’re going to keep an eye on that one.  And the biggie…I have three bad discs in my back and I need surgery.  I fought the surgery for as long as I could, but the pain has finally gotten the best of me.  So…I scheduled the procedure.  The nurse put me down for a Wednesday (I wonder if she knows that’s anti-procrastination day?  Is somebody trying to tell me something?).

I know I will be put on a walking schedule post-surgery.  I just got the e-mail that says Moving in May will be a virtual vacation around the country.  I can’t wait!  When I go back for my check-ups and the doctor asks about my walking, I can’t wait to tell him that I’ve walked to somewhere like the Grand Canyon or Mount Rushmore!

Thank you for being the persistent voice in the back of my mind.  I must admit that when the bad news would come I would think, “Dadburn that FlyLady!  I wouldn’t be going through this if I hadn’t made that first appointment!”  But then I would calm down and be grateful that the mystery aches and pains could finally be understood and dealt with.  I am grateful.  God Bless You All!

A Wilkes County Flybaby
