I almost learned through tragedy not to procrastinate on cleaning my dryer vents.
After reading the testimonials about fires and near misses, I bought the FlyLady Dryer Cleaner. I intended to use it on my dryer, and then give my parents’ machine a check, but two weeks passed by with the box still unopened. My husband had surgery on May 12, and I thought I would wait a month or two before tackling this task.
You can imagine my horror when my mother told me she smelled smoke when she turned on her dryer. They discovered that the vents for their 9-year-old dryer were packed with singed lint. We both often let the dryer run while we’re away from home, a habit I will stop immediately. If she had not been home, there likely would have been a terrible fire. At least the only thing they need to replace is their dryer, which they believe was damaged. Neither one of us ever knew we had to clean out the vents, aside from the lint trap, until we received your emails.
If my parents had been injured or lost their home, with the FlyLady Dryer Cleaner kit sitting unused in my laundry room, I would never have been able to forgive myself.
