Dear FlyLady,I know you’ve heard a lot of creative uses for the Rubba Scrubba – but I’ll be you’ve never heard this one!
I have a 9-year-old son who is on the autism spectrum and has a lot of sensory issues. One of the treatments for Sensory Processing Disorder is a brushing technique. It doesn’t make sense to me – but regular brushing of the skin — done with a certain amount of pressure with just the “right” brush – can have a calming effect. Check out this article
I’ve tried this, on and off, with my son for years – but the recommended brush — the small scrub brush that surgeons use to clean their hands before operating – never did much for my son.
I’m sure you know where this is going….. A few months ago, when my son was having a particularly bad day and I was willing to try anything to calm him and improve his mood, I tried “brushing” him with the Rubba Scrubba. He loved it!
The brush really helped calm him down. – I bought him his own Rubba Scrubba and we use it regularly. I’ve been telling his therapists all about it!
Thanks!
