August Habit #16 My House Runs Much Smoother

Dear FlyLady,

I have been fluttering for a few months now.  I am not completely flying yet, but I have picked up a few routines.  If I can keep up with shining my sink, a load of laundry day, and nightly routines, my house runs much smoother and there is much less chaos.

Before flying, I only did laundry when someone ran out of underwear or school uniforms.  Then I would stay up late waiting for the clothes to finish washing so I could put them in the dryer.

I’d tackled Mount Washmore a few weeks ago.  My DH (Dear Husband)  was amazed at how many pairs of underwear he had when they are all clean. Before, he was afraid to throw holy underwear away thinking he would run out (It happened a few times).

Well, he’s been able to declutter his underwear drawer.

Last week, my washer broke.  It’s 15 years old and has been moved several times, so it’s not much of a surprise.  It took a few days to decide if I want a new washer, or was it worth getting the old one fixed.  I decided to get a new washer, but the one took a week to come in.

I am happy to report that even with 10 days of a broken washer, no one has ran out of underwear.  Because I was on top of my laundry when it broke, my family has plenty of clean clothes.

My new washer will be delivered tomorrow.  I know I have a lot of laundry waiting, but I can get it done one load at a time.  BFL (before FlyLady), this would have been a disaster.  But now, my family is blessed with clean clothes, and I am living a much more peaceful life.

Thank you for your encouragement and advice.  I have many more baby steps to take, but I can get it done 15 minutes at a time.

I am also anxiously waiting for my 2 new water bottles, another set of purple rags, and my feather duster to come in.  My 3 yo DD can’t wait to “bless the world” with the duster.  My DS is required to have a water bottle at school, and I am excited that it will be nice and cold.

Thank you again.
