March Habit #1 March – Getting Dressed to Shoes

March Habit #3March is here, and you know what that means — it’s time to practice a new habit. This month, we are going to work on getting dressed to shoes. This is such an important part of our day. If we aren’t dressed to shoes, we can’t face whatever our day might throw at us!

With shoes on those feet of yours, your mind says, “Okay, it’s time to go to work.” – FlyLady

Dear FlyLady,

I have been following FlyLady for about 10 years.

I started it a few years after we moved to Missouri. Our vintage house was outgrown about 10 minutes after we bought it. Thanks to FlyLady, we have been able to stay in our small house and are close to paying off the mortgage.

Shortly after we moved in, my health collapsed. FlyLady got me through the never-ending rounds of antibiotics for bronchitis and pneumonia. Some days, 10 minutes at a time was all I could do to keep things going.

Without FlyLady, I never could have reared my children. By the grace of God, my health started to improve two years ago. Sadly, I left FlyLady by the wayside and just enjoyed myself. The house fell to bits, but we are okay with that. I have been trying to rein it in lately and am getting back to my good old FlyLady habits.

Life has been getting easier with my launch pad and feather duster.

One habit I forgot was wearing my laced-up shoes. This week I left them off and went lazily around the house barefoot–even though  it hurts my feet. Things were getting worse; my foot kept hurting me. I thought  it was because I wasn’t wearing my shoes (they have wonderful orthotics in them).

This morning, I could hardly walk on my foot. Then I noticed I had a splinter! It wasn’t the lack of orthotics that was hurting my foot all those days! It was a blasted splinter.

Now, I am the ashamed to say, I had to spend $50 this morning at the Urgent Care Center. That’s what it cost to get the splinter removed from my foot. I guess some of us have to learn things the hard way, again and again.

A few years ago, I broke my toe when walking around the house without my shoes (I just remembered that right now). Maybe, I will have to put a sign on my  closet door that says WEAR THOSE SHOES!

Thank you so much FlyLady for all you do for us!
