Let Me Count the Ways

Dear rubbascrubbasaleframedimageFlyLady,

1. My dog (who is a little timid) LOVES the Rubba Scrubba – more than any other brush I’ve tried.

2. It DOES work on the dog hair on our stairs.

3. My step-daughter is taking horseback riding lessons…and guess what I use to brush the “stuff” off her boots when she comes in! (I clean the Rubba Scrubba off, too…don’t worry!)

4. A little longer Rubba Scrubba story…with a laundry story and a “15-minutes” story thrown in: A couple weeks ago, I took down the valance/curtains in my kitchen to wash them. (First time in two years I’d even thought to take them down…thanks to FlyLady! I’d noticed before that they were getting a little dusty, and I had dusted around them (with my FlyLady duster) as best I could, but I used to be so busy trying to keep up with mountains of laundry that it never occurred to me to ADD laundry that wasn’t absolutely essential to wash!) Finally, though, I started FLYing, doing a load of laundry a day, and I realized that I was actually LOOKING AROUND THE HOUSE to find MORE laundry!!! I actually asked myself, “Well, what else can I wash?” And I thought of those curtains.

Thanks to my experience with a timer (not the official FlyLady timer, but I think I’m about ready to order one), I realized that it would PROBABLY take LESS than 15 minutes to take the curtains down – actually took about THREE minutes – and I washed them, dried them, IRONED them, and had them BACK UP in about an hour!!! But here’s where the Rubba Scrubba comes in…I had just finished ironing the last one, when I accidentally dropped it on the floor.

Now, if I’d been anywhere else in the house, dropping it wouldn’t have been SUCH a big deal, but I was down in our unfinished basement (where the laundry room is), and FlyLady hasn’t really visited much down there yet. I’m just now getting to the point where I’ve started even considering the “dungeon” as part of the house – now that the rest of the house is a little more under control, I can start thinking about the basement!

Anyway, the concrete floor down there is pretty dusty – which I’d never really noticed until I dropped my freshly washed, freshly ironed curtain on it. I snatched it up, but it was too late…little dust particles covered the part that had touched the floor. I shook it…no luck – the dust was hanging on for dear life. I swatted at it with my hand…still nothing. And then I thought of the Rubba Scrubba! I ran to the top of the stairs, grabbed it, ran back down and began to brush…30 seconds later I was ready to re-hang my valances.

The best part of the whole thing was the incredulous tone in my DH’s voice when he called and asked what I was doing. I said, “Well, I just finished washing and ironing the kitchen curtains and hanging them back up.” He hadn’t even noticed that they were dusty, but he was impressed that they were freshly washed…and that I took the time to do it. AND that I did it all myself…in the past I’d have probably asked him to take them down or put them up for me since they’d be easier for him to reach, etc., but I’m learning that while he is always willing to help with whatever I ask him to do, he really appreciates it – and is impressed – when I do something on my own…and it actually makes him MORE agreeable to helping with the things I really CAN’T do. I could go on and on about the ways FLYing is changing our home – and our relationship – but I’ll save more for another testimonial!

Thanks, FlyLady!!!
