We are so excited about our 2nd Annual International FLY Fest! There will be groups meeting all over the world on March 20th. I can’t wait to tell you about what we are planning in my home town of Brevard NC.
I want to have the largest FLY Fest ever and show off my FLY Babies to the people in Brevard. At the same time we are raising money for our local domestic violence shelter. We have leased the Porter Center at Brevard College for the just the beginning of our FLY Fest! There is so much to tell you; I barely know where to start!!!
Ok I will start at the beginning. Our mayor, Jimmy Harris bowls on our bowling team the Gutter Dusters. Ten days ago he asked if I could do a little talk at his hardware store. I said sure, but there is not enough room at the store. His store is right next door to our little movie theater. He said I can rent that for you. It only seats 200 people. I told him that was not big enough either for our FLY Babies. Well Kelly and I started to run with this!
As most of you know we have just moved into a new office and warehouse space for our FLY Shop! The new space is right across the street from the Porter Center. Now if we are going to have a FLY Fest on March 20th; we might as well let the mayor be a part of our celebration. So we decided to have our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony the same day and he can bring the big gold scissors from City Hall. At the same time we felt that it would be a good opportunity for us to support our new neighbor Safe, Inc. They are a non-profit organization that helps victims of domestic violence get back on their feet. Their resale shop is right behind our office. We have a nice area that we could pitch a tent and have some local musicians come and perform for our FLY Babies and the community while you get to meet the FLY Crew in the office. This is a FLY Festival to raise money to support victims of domestic violence. Since I don’t work at the office; I will borrow Tom and Justin’s office to meet in private with you one at a time. We will have everything set up so you can enjoy the festivities and not have to wait for hours to get your hug. If you were in New Orleans or Asheville last year you know how long it can take. I will promise you all that I will stay there till everyone has been hugged. We are going to have so much fun.
The FLY Shop is not a store like O.P. Taylor’s Toy Store in down town Brevard, but this one time; Tom has said we will open up the doors for you during our open house! We have asked the entire FLY Crew to come so you can meet them and they will help you. Leanne, Traci and Michelle (The Mom Show) are even coming in from California, Jean from Utah, Dana, Liane and Katie from Florida, Paddi and Jessica from Chattanooga, Deena from Goldsboro, NC, Carolyn and Kelly Lynn from West TN, Michael from VA, Kelly, Tom, Justin, Emily, Misty, Wendy, Carolyn, Rebecca all live locally. Oh and Robert and I will be there too. We are so excited that we can hardly stand it. This is going to be so much fun. It is going to be like homecoming!!
So here are the details:
We will be selling tickets for the Porter Center Kick Off on our website. They will be $15.00. We only have 600 to sell. All profits from the Porter Center will be donated to Safe, Inc. in Brevard, NC. We are also asking all our FLY Babies to bring a 27 Fling Boogie Bag of Good stuff to donate to the resale shop. We will have a truck standing by to receive these donations.
We are working with the volunteers at Safe,Inc. to provide fun and games as well as some vendors for food that afternoon. So the children can come too. We are looking into day care for the speaking event. More details for that next week. We have lots to do: I better start a holiday control journal for this!

When: March 20th. Starting at 10:00 am; Tickets are required for this; We have limited seating. The afternoon Festival is free to the public. So even if we sell out of tickets; I will still get to meet you at the FLY Shop that is across the street.
Why: So we can have a great time for a good cause.
Other Notes: We have set aside a block of rooms at the two major hotels in town for a really good price for those of you that will come in from way out of town. The Hampton Inn (828/883-4800) and the Holiday Inn Express(828/862-8900) will book you a room for 69.99 and all you have to do is say FLYLADY! I couldn’t believe the price they gave us.
I want to see everyone in Purple and waving those dusters as we parade across the street for the festival. I guess we need a Parade permit (better talk to the mayor about that). We are going to have policemen there to stop traffic; not that 600 FLY Babies couldn’t do that all by themselves. We are going to have so much fun. I will keep you up to date on the details as they happen. Maybe we can get a video photographer to document this for us. My head is just spinning with fun ideas.
