Sing a Song by The FlyLady, Marla Cilley

Over the years I have been blessed by many God Breezes. Most of them come in the form of a song. In the dark wee hours of this morning I scribbled down on my bathroom notebook these words, Sing a Song.

When I got up a few hours later I couldn't turn my computer on fast enough to find the song. I found several people singing it but the voice I heard was Karen Carpenter. I eventually downloaded it from iTunes and am listening to it now trying to figure out what the God Breeze message is in these lyrics or just the song as it was sung by Karen.

As I searched YouTube I saw Karen go from being healthy and energetic to a very thin whisper of what she once was. She died of heart failure in 1983 due to complications related to anorexia. As I hear her sing, tears well up in my eyes over losing her to a disease of not ever being good enough.

We all suffer with feelings of inadequacy; this is our perfectionism. Sometimes those feelings manifest themselves on our bodies, in our homes, on our calendars and our bank accounts. It can be all of them at once too. We wrote about this in our book Body Clutter. Body Clutter is not the just the clutter on your backside. It is the clutter that is between your ears. If I can help you eliminate your "all or nothing" attitude, then I have done what God put me on this earth to do.

All or Nothing Examples:

I don't have time to clean right = I do nothing

I will never get rid of all this clutter = I won't participate in Super Fling Boogie, WHY BOTHER!

I am never going to be my high school weight = I give up eating right

I can't let anyone know I am overwhelmed = I keep booking things to do to look organized.

I have to keep up appearances = Max out your credit cards

The bathroom is nasty = Spend 4 hours cleaning in hyper-focus mode

It is hard to feel bad when you open up your mouth and sing. Lots of times we don't even know we are unhappy and feeling inadequate. I remember a story about little children who woke in a bad mood. They were told that it was because their shadow had not come home after playing all night. They were instructed to go sit by the front door and hum till their shadow could find its way home. There is something about a tune that changes our attitudes.

When we open up our hearts to allow the words to flow out of us; the songs become an affirmation that helps to eliminate the negative thinking that we have between our ears. Filling all of our senses with good feelings! When you keep it simple you don't have remember too many words. The affirmation stays with you. You are singing for the joy of singing and you are blessing yourself at the same time.

When you are happy that happiness is contagious, that is what happens when you let go of your "all or nothing 'stinkin' thinkin!" You can do this! The love is there; you just have to free it!

Open up your mouth and sing FlyBaby sing!
