Life is for the Living by The FlyLady, Marla Cilley
A couple of weeks ago our FlyLady family was hit by a terrible tragedy. FlyLady Dana's nineteen year old son was killed in a car accident. It is never easy to deal with death, especially the passing of a young man with his whole life ahead of him. After the funeral my sister Paddi and I drove to visit our Grand Mother a few hours away in Kentucky.
Granny has buried both of her children. She is ninety-three. She has a hard time seeing and hearing and her mind is not as sharp as it once was. It took her a while to figure out who we were. As we sat and talked, she made a profound statement that has me writing, "Live while you can!"
When we are surrounded by clutter, we allow stuff to suck the life right out of us. We are not dead but we sure are not living our lives to the fullest. The clutter keeps us locked behind closed doors. We live in fear that someone will find out our dirty little secret. I have known instances when emergency services were not called because they would not be able to get a gurney into the house. There are other times when a couple would not go on vacation because they could not allow anyone in the house to care for their cat. These are the extremes.
I want to look at what happens with just our daily living. We spend more time searching for things than we do loving our family. We don't have people over because it is too hard to get the house presentable. Our children play at someone else's home. When our family asks us to do something fun; we make excuses because the laundry needs doing or the dishes need washed. Even if you do go; you don't have fun because those things are going to slap you in the face when you walk through your door. How sad is that!
We have allowed stuff, our lack of routines and our perfectionism to keep us from living! We have become a slave to this way of life. We know no other way to live. I want to help you break these bonds of slavery to clutter and perfectionism. I want you to have the freedom to invite people over or go on vacation without worry. I want you to live your life to the fullest and follow your dreams.
My dear friend Eric Dodge, has a song on his latest CD, Life is for the Living, it was written by Tom Paden. Here are the lyrics for this song.
Life is for the Living
I looked down and saw he had a smile upon his face
Even on this sad occasion it was perfectly in place
He was my favorite uncle everybody's friend
And I can still hear him say right up til' the end.
Life is for the living.
If you're not embracing every moment you're wasting precious time
If you're not loving somebody your really not alive
this ain't no dress rehearsal our time down here on earth
Sometime it takes somebody leaving to remind us what it's worth
And All the blessings we've been given, Life is for the living
I loved a woman at least I thought I did
Til' she just couldn't take what I just wouldn't give
Spent all my time working when should have loved her more
And I can still hear her say as she walked out the door.
Life is for the living
If you're not embracing every moment you're wasting precious time
If you're not loving somebody your really not alive
No, this ain't no dress rehearsal our time down here on earth
Sometime it take somebody leaving to remind us what it's worth
And all the blessing we've been given. Life is for the living.
No this ain't no dress rehearsal our time down here on earth
Sometime it takes somebody leaving to remind us what it's worth
And all the blessings we've been given. Life is for the living.
Life is for the living.
I want you to live your life to the fullest. Finally Loving Yourself is the key to open your shackles to a new life.
