No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service!
Dear Friends:
As we have been focusing on a different habit for each month this
year, we have been reconditioning our brains to incorporate each new
habit into our lives. This month our new habit is Getting dressed
to shoes. I know this can sound kind of strange I mean after all we
were trained to get dressed everyday and to wear shoes from the time
we could walk. We know we are supposed to put on our clothes and
shoes and we know that to function in 99 % of our lives we have to
wear them ( I leave that one percent for bathing and those that
sleep au natural). You see the signs on most entrance doors to
stores " No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service" . I saw this sign on the
doors of a convenience store the other day and it made me think of
our new habit. No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service. Wow! That sign
before always used to make me smile, in my mind (or in my life) I
would never go to a store without my shirt on (LOL) or without my
shoes on! But, thinking about that sign makes me think of why
getting dressed to shoes is such a vital component of the FLyLady
system. As Flylady has told us many, many times getting dressed to
shoes tells your brain that you are ready to work. This means
coming out of the sweats, the bathrobes and the pajamas to getting
yourself ready to "seize the day" by getting dressed in clothes,
doing your hair/makeup and lacing up those shoes.
There are many of you that work outside the home that can't even
fathom not getting dressed the minute your feet hit the floor and of
course putting on your shoes because you have some place that you
have to be quickly in the morning. Getting dressed to shoes also
applies to when you come home from work. For those of you that work
outside the home you do your morning routine and then do your
missions and zone work in the evenings. When you come home from
work and change from your work clothes to hang around the house
clothes you need to make sure that you put on something that does
not tell your brain to curl up on the couch and go to sleep. Have a
cute and comfortable pair of pants and top to put on with a pair of
lace up shoes. You will still be comfortable but not so much that
your brain thinks that it is couch potato time. Once you have
completed any house things to do, dinner and evening routines. Then
change into your comfy evening clothes that tell your brain to
relax! This will really help your mindset when coming home from
work with so much yet to do in your home.
Think about the sign again "No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service" when we
are not dressed to shoes we are pretty much unable to give any
service to our homes and families because we are not ready. Getting
dressed to shoes takes our brain into the it's time to get moving
zone instead of the I just want to go back to bed zone!
Go to the home page of www.Flylady.net and scroll down to the green
section titled Reinforcing Your Habits. Here you will find out how
other FlyBabies are doing with their new habits.
It is Anti-Procrastination day, for those of you that are reading
this right now that are not dressed to shoes - walk away from the
computer and apply the do it now principle!
No more procrastinating!! Have a great day!
