Shoes are Tools
Dear Friends:
This month we are focusing on Getting Dressed to Shoes as our habit
for this month. It is time to address the Shoes part of that habit.
I happen to love shoes, I like them in all colors and styles. I
like them in sneakers, sandals, boots, clogs etc. I just love
shoes!!
I used to have a tendency to purchase shoes that did not
fit particularly well or hoped that they would stretch. I bought
shoes because they were on sale and they were such a great deal.
Did not really matter if they were uncomfortable or not as long as I
thought they looked cute, I was good to go! After I started to FLY I
realized one thing about wearing shoes. It is not loving myself to
wearing shoes that are uncomfortable or do not fit well.
A few years ago I started going to a gym to exercise. I was wearing a
pair of what I thought were okay tennis shoes and I came home
limping. I just figured that I was so out of shape that I was
supposed to be in pain. No pain no gain, right? WRONG! My husband
used to be in the athletic shoe industry, I was complaining to him
about my shins and legs hurting so badly. He asked me to show him
the shoes that I was wearing to exercise in. I brought them to
him. He took one look at them and told me that the shoes that I was
wearing were basically fashionably fun shoes and most certainly not
the right shoes to do any type of exercise in. He asked me how much
I paid for the shoes and I told him around $30 - 40 on sale.
The look on his face was priceless. He looked at me and said why is
it that you would spend so little on the one thing that holds up your
entire body and protects your body? I was so taken back by that
statement. We spend money on our clothes to look good, we spend
money on make up, jewelry, manicures, etc and yet the one item that
supports our bodies and the one thing that we wear out because of
the pounding we do in them we have a tendency to go cheap on!!! We
deserve good quality shoes that will protect our feet, ankles,
calves, knees, hips and backs.
I have a new attitude about the shoes I buy and wear. Shoes are
tools! Just like our calendars, feather dusters, control journals
and timers. They are all tools to help us to FLY!!! Because of
knee problems that I have I pretty much wear athletic shoes most of
the time. There are so many brands and styles out there that are
cute, colorful and fun that I still can feel stylish but yet protect
my knees. If money is tight start putting aside a few dollars at a
time and save up for a good quality pair of shoes to protect the
most precious thing you have: YOU!! Go to a good shoe store and
try on several different styles and brands. Don't be afraid of the
price tag. It seems like a lot of money at the time of the purchase
but I guarantee you that your body with thank you by you having less
aches and pains and there fore you will have more energy to FLY!
Finally Love Yourself!
