Testimonial: Swish and Swipe
FlyLady Here: Many folks have complained that I don't have bathroom
cleaning in our weekly home blessing hour. The reason it is not there
is because I swish and swipe my bathroom every day. It only takes a
few seconds to pick up after myself and wipe the counters, sink and
to swish the toilet with a brush. This way your bathroom is company
ready all the time.

Dear FlyLady,
I want to thank you for what is probably the most liberating part of
your system for me...the daily swish and swipe.
I have struggled for years in keeping the bathroom clean. It was
hard enough with a very hairy DH (LOL) and myself, but add 2 children
and it was spinning out of control! Who knew a swish and a swipe
everyday would keep it sparkling...and what a difference a clean
mirror makes. Just a stoop to hit the floor around the potty with
glass cleaner and (gasp) toilet paper could keep me from having to
mop so often. (I've even been known to use a bath towel to clean up
accidents from my latest potty trainee...my mother would faint!) A
quick rinse of the tub, toys, and bathmat after the kids' bath keeps
them clean, too. I use my bathroom zone cleaning week to hit the
rugs and the other stuff!
One of the reasons I sought help and ultimately found you was for
this reason. Last winter my family came down with the Norwalk virus
(the one that plagued all those cruise ships a while back). My DD
(then 2) picked it up at a restaurant bathroom (I suspect) and then
the rest of us got it. That bug is MISERABLE! I was 8 months
pregnant at the time as well. Anyway we all recovered in a day or
two. A week or two later my DH's parents and my parents came to
visit to help me out with the kids as the time came for the baby.
Three of the four got the virus from my staying (overnight) in my
house. The only reason my MIL didn't get it is because she was a
nurse and is diligent about washing her hands. Anyway, I knew that
bathroom had to be the culprit! I just felt awful and ashamed! That
won't happen again...now that I'm armed with the swish and swipe.
The swish and swipe is good for your health! And so is "shining your
hands" as we call it in our house. We are all trying to remember to
wash our hands (or sanitize with hand sanitizer) as soon as we come
home, after using the bathroom, changing diapers, blowing noses,
etc. Nothings says I love you like toilet paper AND clean hands!!!!f
I live minutes from a restaurant where the Hepatitis A breakout
originated here in Pittsburgh..people who didn't even eat at the
restaurant are contracting the virus from contact with those who
did. Washing hands (and perhaps and swish and swipe) would have
prevented it.
With the swish and swipe and clean hands we are looking forward to
fewer germs this holiday season! We've gotten our flu shots too (
thanks to anti-procrastination day)!
Thanks for helping me simplify my life and love myself to a
comforting and peaceful home! My bathroom is healthy and happy! We
just love you and your crew!!!
Big Hugs,
Pittsburgh FlyBaby
