Why Bother “If It Ain’t Broke”

Dear FlyLady,Hand with two fingers up in the peace or victory symbol. Also th

I’ve recently realized that all my life I’ve used the “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” rule for my housekeeping.  If I couldn’t see the dust, then I didn’t need to dust, right?  If the floors weren’t a huge mess, then there was no sense spending time vacuuming/mopping until it was necessary, right?  Of course, things had to be REALLY “broke” before I even noticed they needed fixing, and by then, my place was a mess.

Thank you for showing me that preventive maintenance is the key to housekeeping!

Love to you all,

FlyLady here; I used to clean like that too. I realized that I would never have to see dirt again when I started using simple routines to keep our home looking nice. After all it is called housekeeping. We are keeping up with it instead of putting out fires when something is so bad that we get grossed out.

Here is a list of the things I do to bless our home every day. This keeps our home company ready. Just see what you can accomplish in 2 minutes.

1. Dishwasher is always ready to receive dirty dishes.
2. Feather dust for 2 minutes
3. Make our bed
4. Dustmop the floors quickly
5. Swish and Swipe
6. I pick up after myself and put things away when I get them out.
