What’s All the Hurry

Dear Friends,

All of our lives we couldn’t wait to get to the next time in our lives. We were excited about the milestones: Graduating high school, moving out of your parents home, going to college, getting married, having a beautiful house, raising children, retiring. I could go on and on.

I guess the older you get the more time flies. It seem like yesterday that my son was nine years old. Now he has his own children who will soon be in college. Life is short so why not take a little time to enjoy it.

We rush to every destination. Do you want to know why we are always in a hurry? It is because we have procrastinated. Think about getting ready for work in the morning. We hit the snooze button on our alarm; not once but two or three time. Just a few more minutes is all we want. At this point we want to freeze time. Are you procrastinating about getting up? NO!

The procrastination happened last night! You kept putting off going to bed. You wanted more minutes of quiet time or there was one more thing to do before getting to bed. We have to stop this behavior.

When you procrastinate, your day goes into overdrive. The rushing becomes a way of life. You are being fueled by your adrenaline. Just like with a car that has had moth balls dropped in the gas tank. It will run till it can’t! You have two speeds too.

Those speeds are rushing around like a chicken with its head cut off or sick in the bed. There is no middle ground.  We have to learn how to pace ourselves. That constant flow of adrenaline in our veins causes us deplete our resources of this precious commodity; too much of a good thing is a bad thing!

I used to be just like you but my body rebelled. When I would get in a big hurry, rushing around to get things done; I would find myself feeling faint! I would have to get down on the floor in case I passed out. I had no clue what was wrong with me. It was many years before I would discover the answer.

My body does not metabolize my own adrenaline. I overdose on my own adrenaline. I am thankful for this because I have learned how to not be in a hurry! In order to do this, I have to think ahead. What can I do right now that will help me to pace myself.

Slow and steady has become my rally cry!

I know some of you are asking why do you want us to mop our floors in 2 minutes. You are missing my point on this. The reason I want you to try this little 2 minute challenge is so you will see how much you can get done in just two minutes. It is not to race through the house in a mad haphazard manner.

You have seen me capturing dust bunnies in a speedy fashion. That was a using music to get things done. I was not rushed; it was more like a dance. Plus I was showing my friends how I can get my floors done in a fun way without stressing that it has to be perfectly. It just has to be done.

Here are some things to think about when you are in a hurry!

  1. Rushing on the highway could cause an accident.
  2. Patience is limited when you are rushing.
  3. I DON’T HAVE TIME Causes you to miss precious moments
  4. You feel behind all the time.
  5. Your anger threshold is low.
  6. When we rush we forget important things.
  7. We lose things too.
  8. We burn food on the stove or in the oven.
  9. We fall and hurt ourselves.
  10. We drop things and they break.
  11. We don’t get things done any faster when we rush! SO STOP IT!

Please take care of yourself! Pace yourself! Be kind to yourself!
