Dear FlyLady,
I’ve been menu planning, kind of since last year but as of last month I really had to get on it.
My husband started a new job where his pay went to every other week and we we’re used to a weekly paycheck. We also can easily fall into the habit of fast food because I get home and don’t know or want to cook dinner.
So last month I got back on track and started menu planning again. My
husband is most appreciative because it’s also saved him those daily or every other day trips to the grocery store. Not to mention saved money.
I don’t actually assign per day because I just don’t feel like eating something sometimes but I did put my menu on the fridge and it made it so easy to get home see what I had bought groceries for and make that meal. It really was a relief and it really cut down our eating out big time.
Last night I sat down and just wrote every meal down that I could remember that I make or have made and we liked. All the other times I’ve done this I’ve gotten wrapped up in the details and then exhausted with the whole thing because I would write down the meal and then everything needed and I’d only get like 7 meals because I’d be done with the whole thing and then my list would disappear (SHEness) and I’d have to start all over. So last night just the meals and could you believe I came up with like 30 meals! WHAT?! So today I typed up my list during my break and at lunch I went in and filled in the ingredients and then saved that to a different spreadsheet and Voila! I have a menu list to show my family and they can pick their favorites but then I have my detailed list for me. THEN.. on my afternoon break I finished filling in my Master Grocery List with the ingredients I was missing still (I’ve been working on that list for who knows how long) and again VOILA!
Now let’s just hope I put all these nifty tools I made myself to good use.
They will go nicely in my new binder I bought for my control journal. I have
yet to transfer my stuff from my control binder to my new one…. Just my SHEness showing itself. I better hurry though because I seen my DD eye balling it! LOL
Thanks so much for always encouraging us and giving us wonderful advice!!
Now if I could just get that paper clutter in order… It is definitely one of my hardest habits to break…but a step in the right direction…I brought my new shredder in the house that has been in my trunk for…no joke…about 6 months! LOL! This last night as well. PLUS one last thing…I swept my front porch and picked up all the trash in our yard. I don’t think I’ve ever done that! It felt good!
Thanks again!
