Here’s how I pampered myself and I didn’t even know it.
I had to buy a concert outfit for my daughter. I was dreading it because I would rather poke my eye out with a fork than shop, but she was excited.
I received a gift card from work to a coffee establishment I don’t frequent very often. We found what we needed at the department store and then headed for the coffee place before popping in to surprise her dad at his second job at another store.
As I sat across the table from this amazing old soul trapped in a young lady’s body, I slowed down long enough to catch a glimpse of what her dreams, observations and concerns are pertaining to this hectic world we live in. She was in her element legs crossed and shoulders relaxed. We connected for the first time in a long while. I learned what is important to her. At age 11, she is already planning her future and I realized I am tasked with leading her into that future. We went on to the next store and sat in the massage demonstration chairs close to her dad’s department while waiting for him to go on break. Before that we window shopped all the silly stocking stuffers and we laughed and talked about who we should buy what for. We picked up a CD of a soundtrack of a movie we had just watched with a friend of hers and had a girl’s night “you’re welcome” party when we went home as we thought about how blessed we truly are to be in each other’s lives. The memory of this will be the best clutter free gift I could have given myself. So thank you FlyLady and crew for teaching me to love myself because in the past I would have foregone this to clean, but now clean enough really is clean enough.
