Hello FlyLady & Fly Crew,

My New Years resolution involved signing up to try Gentle Stretch Yoga for Seniors. First I signed up for 6 weeks of class on Monday and Friday (because I thought I would need rest and recovery days in between). Well I liked it so much that the next 6 weeks, I committed to Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Class is from 9:00 to 10:00, so I have been able to eliminate most Errand Day tasks by just making a quick stop on my way home (USPO, groceries, gas, etc.) I arrive home invigorated and get so much more accomplished before lunch time.

Getting to the shoes. Yoga is done barefoot, and after ELEVEN weeks, I still cannot do the standing on one foot like a tree. I waver like a Willow in the Wind! My foot feels like it is rolling from side to side. The instructor told me to go barefoot at home, and practice throughout the day. I looked at her and thought, Fly Lady would NOT like that! Then I thought of all the reasons that I need to have my shoes on during the day…going up/down stairs, going out with the dog, going down to the mail box. Doing the ‘Load a Day’ and walking barefoot on the basement floor? Ick!

What is so great about the FlyLady systems is that it is adaptable! My compromise is to not wear my shoes in the evening. I do my foot exercise of trying to grab the carpet with my toes, the arch stretches, etc., while I watch the local news and weather forecast. And the other great news is that because of this change in life style, I can no longer wear the pants to that I wore to the first class…I have to keep pulling them up! IT FEELS GREAT!!!

Thank you for teaching me how to manage my home tasks in a manner which freed up the time for me to commit to these classes!

P.S. Another bonus is that I have met such nice people in the classes, and that has expanded my feeling of community connection. Widowhood can be lonely.
