Dear Flylady,

I have found that the log jam in my home has been the kitchen sink. As I have started to guard the kitchen sink, everything else is falling into place. I have been wiping down each time after use and do not even like to leave dishes on the drying rack anymore. This looks like clutter. As soon as I wash them, I quickly pick up a lint-free dish cloth and quickly dry them and pack them away. What a relief and what a pleasure when I look for items and find them where they belong, instead of having to dig under piles of dishes all precariously balanced on top of each other whilst they are supposedly drying!

So, I now guard my sink, and this is helping me with the precious words of guarding our hearts from negative or unwholesome thoughts. I see how things can spiral downwards from a cluttered sink, and realize that this will happen with my mind if I do not guard my thoughts. So with every dish I wash, dry and put away, I am reinforcing to myself how to guard my heart too.

We have also started a roster recently for the children to unpack the dishwasher. What a pleasure. Now I make sure the dishwasher is unpacked every afternoon, and then dinner and breakfast dishes are put in before it runs again. Previously we used to run the dishwasher at night and unpack in the morning, but I found if this wasn’t done timeoisly then dishes would pile up after breakfast and that was unpleasant. Unpacking the dishwasher in the afternoon seems to be more welcomed by the children and they actually enjoy it now!
