My Truck is Bug Free

  Dear FlyLady,

Yesterday, I drove into town in my big, black pickup truck to check out the local Farmer’s Market.  When I returned, the grill and windshield were covered with dead love-bugs.  Anyone who’s spent any time in Florida during love bug season knows that these little smashed bugs can become cement-like if allowed to remain on a vehicle for any length of time – and can remove the paint if left on too long.  My husband is the one in our family who cleans off the vehicles following each drive this time of year, but he was off on a trip that day.

Normally, I’d have just parked the truck in the shed and left the bugs for him to deal with when he returned.  But I’m working hard at not procrastinating, so I picked up the hose and long handled brush, and dutifully attempted to clean the bugs off the truck’s grill and windshield.  The brush wasn’t doing the job quite as well as I’d hoped.  My sister had just sent me a packet of purple rags, and I’d only used them a couple of times thus far, so I figured I’d give them a try.

I guess I don’t have to tell you that they did the trick!  Purple rags, water and a little elbow grease, and the tenacious bugs were gone!  DH was so pleased when I told him that the truck was love-bug free.  Thanks for all your testimonials that made me reach for a tool that wouldn’t scratch the paint on my grill.
