Prepared For The Field Trip

Dear FlyLady,

PFL (Pre- Flylady), I would not have lunches for my kids for field trips and would have to hurry to the store to buy one and then rush to the school before the bus would leave.

One time I had completely forgotten my son had a field trip.  He was the only kindergarten student without a lunch. Luckily his teacher and a couple of other parents put pieces of their lunches together for him to eat, including the teacher’s own sandwich.

When I got there to pick him up, he looked at me with that “I can’t believe you did that to me” look, and said “how could you forget my lunch mom?” Talk about feeling as small as you can get.

At that moment I began buying your calendar and started telling the boys when they get something to remind me to put it on the calendar. My youngest DS had a field trip this Wednesday and my middle DS had one last week.

My DH looked at the calendar at the beginning of last week and asked what I wanted him to pick up when he went to the store. Both lunches were bought early and put together and ready to go for when their individual field trips came.

It was wonderful that DH actually looked to see if there was something he could help with and we were field trip ready before the field trip days were here. Along with no “how could you’s” from either boy!!

FlyLady here: No parent ever sets out to disappoint their child.

This is one of the reasons I really push the point about using a family calendar. If you have it hanging in the kitchen then everyone can see where they are going to be and what they will need.

Every evening you can check with your family and post to the calendar. You check what is going on the next day and make sure you have everything ready.

No more tears as you head out the door because something is forgotten!

No more forgotten lunches.
