January Habit #7 Celebrate Shiny Sinks

Dear FlyLady,

For your January habit, keep sink shining, I have struggled before.

I have started Baby Stepping about 6 months ago and was moving along too fast that I never made anything a habit. So I am very glad the new habit for the new year is keep sink shining. Because of you I have a calendar hanging in my Kitchen.

I decided that every month I would write a new habit on top and do my best to do it everyday. Well already I haven’t done it everyday but when I look at my calendar it reminds me to shine my sink. So I guess I am doing two habits, remembering to look at my calendar everyday and shine my sink. I took it back to grade school days and give myself smiley face stickers when I have done my habit. For some odd reason it makes me feel good and I want to shine my sink to give myself a sticker…lol.

I already have next months habit just for me planned. I want to work out for at least 15 minutes everyday. But I know usually once you get started you keep going. Fingers crossed.

I spent one whole day months ago searching the internet for something to help me keep my house organized and stay clean. I lived in CHAOS and it always made me feel bad. I had almost given up searching because I wasn’t finding what I was looking for and I always think….thank heavens I didn’t. I found you.

Because of you I know I can’t do everything at once, simple things make a big difference, not to take my cleaning frustrations out on my family, planning makes things less stressful, to look at what I have done not what I haven’t, to make the best of what I have, make time for the family, and the most important is that not everything has to be perfect. I never let my DD, who is 8 cook with me because I always wanted to do it to the best of my ability. I now let her cook with me and I don’t get frustrated that it’s not perfect. Just the fact that we did it together, I didn’t get cranky, and we had fun doing it because I didn’t get upset makes me feel so good inside.

Because of you my New Year’s resolution was to do something nice for my daughter and boyfriend everyday, no matter how small, because they deserve it.

Thank you so very much,
Ashley from Wisconsin
