I Just Need to Listen

Dear Flylady-

I learned about you probably 2 years ago now. A friend referred me to your website because you had helped her so much. I will admit that I loved it from the first moment, but sadly, I was not ready to give up my perfectionist ways to even get through the baby steps. Instead of enjoying the emails and embracing them, they just got to be too much, like everything else happening around me, so I unsubscribed. I unsubscribed, but NEVER forgot. You were always in the back of my mind, but I just could not admit that I really did need help. I did not understand it then, but after 2 very busy and stressful years, I came to a realization about 3 weeks ago…….what I am currently doing right now IS NOT WORKING!!!

So, one morning I woke up, look around at my house that looked like 5 tornadoes had hit it, I looked at every room in disgust, and said to myself, “Enough is enough. This is not fair to my husband, it is not fair to my kids, and it is not fair to ME!! I am a 36 year-old woman, and it is time to get my self and my home together.”

So, I knew what I had to do. I opened up your website, looked it over, started a brand-new email dedicated ONLY to Flylady emails and subscribed. I decided to do a separate email because I want it to be a place I can go and only find what I need to hear, do, and how to stay on track.  I am very easily side-tracked, I drive myself crazy with it lol, so I knew I needed to separate Flylady from all the other chaos email accounts. I want it to be a place I can go to regroup, be inspired, and just plain relax for a few minutes.

I just read your email about how our perfectionist ways keep us from getting done what we need to do, and boy, was that ever an eye opening experience!!  I probably fit the bill for 90% of the things on that list!!  It was very humbling and I am forever grateful for your honestly and just plain common sense. It is refreshing in a very chaotic world.

3 days after I started back with Flylady, half of our giant Oak tree in our yard broke off and fell on my roof. It caused extensive damage, but everyone was okay, which is all that matters. Normally, I probably would have been distraught over it, but because my mind, body, and spirit had been renewed and I had already begun a few routines, I was not freaked out when I had to have the insurance adjuster and contractor come in my house and assess the damage. Everything happens for a reason, right?  I am a true believer of that.

In closing, I just want to say Thank You. Thank you for still being there when I needed help, even though it is years later. It means more than I can ever say!

A Forever Grateful Flybaby in IL
