Dear FlyLady,

I’ve been flying for over a year and our lives are incredible. Yesterday marked the 4th year I’ve taken lunch to my husband’s office to celebrate his birthday. This means, meal planning, cooking and then transporting a hot meal for about forty people. I’ve previously enjoyed parts of it, but then have been a martyr about cleaning, but not anymore, not since you taught me how to fly. The real gift, I see now, is doing it with love; without resentment or complaining to the family know “how tired mom is”.

So, this time, I followed your advice. I planned far ahead and then in the days before would make one dish at a time after dinner, clean up my mess before starting the next. As an example, I made lots of extra mashed potatoes on Tuesday and then Wednesday, turned that into potato soup. The kids really enjoyed helping and saw how easy it was. Here’s the best part, after the lunch, when I returned home with a car full of dirty dishes, I kept flying, even though I felt tired at first. I set my 15 minute timer and would hustle for 15 minutes, then rest 15. By the time he came home three hours later, not only was the kitchen clean, with floor mopped, but I’d also washed and folded all of the beach towels and hand towels I’d used for transport and cleaning. I was so proud of myself and I didn’t get worn out.

Now it is Saturday morning, the house is asleep, but as I sit reflecting on the day, I see my shiny sink and shiny kitchen to match. Thanks to you, my home truly feels like a vacation. Your guidance has transformed our lives and I am so grateful.
