Hello Dear FlyLady and crew!
All those extra mesh laundry bags I received with my purple rags come in handy to save socks from being devoured by the washer and dryer. I put my socks in the bag when I take them off. That way I make sure both socks of a pair make it into the washer.
Washers and dryers alike sometimes take in small items, especially socks and underwear and smaller washcloths, sometimes never to be recovered again. Putting them in the bags prevents this from happening. Also small items can cause dryer fires.
We had a dryer catch fire at our Church once. When the repairman took it apart there were several smaller items that had made their way to the inner working parts of the dryer and prevented it from turning and causing the belt to heat up and then catch the items on fire. With washers, they sometimes wash over board over the top of the tub and go out the drain. I have caught some in the act and were able to rescue them, but some make it all the way out.
