February Declutter Mission: Mission #1 Zone #3

Today clean under your bathroom sink. Get all the items you no longer use or want and donate or throw them away. Get all outdated makeup, vitamins, and medicine out so you can find what you really use or love. If you have any questions about medicine call you local police department and they will know how to properly handle those items.

Dear FlyLady,

I’m a fluttering FlyBaby, and you are giving me the tools to actually live!  What a blessing you are!

I’d been working on the baby steps, but then I got sick and landed on the couch for days on end.  My babies (5, 4, & 2) ate cereal for lunch in the floor more days than I care to admit, and my mood went south as I saw my progress vanish into mounds of crumbs and dishes & clutter.

But God bless my husband, he’d seen the positive changes I’d made following your system before I got sick.  So he asked me what he could do to help me regain control of the house, now that I’m back on my feet.  He pointed to a massive pile of outgrown children’s clothes and asked if he could tackle that for me, or if I needed to sort more carefully than he would so I could sell it.

My old self whispered, “look at all that money or trade-in value you could get if you consigned it.” But your beautiful FlyWashing Southern accent was louder! “You’ve had that pile growing for over a year and it hasn’t been tagged and sorted yet!  It needs to go to the car, today!” So he just folded everything & put it in paper grocery bags.  8 bags!!! My SUV was full, so I squeezed my 4 year old between the bags into her car seat and we went on a mommy daughter date to the thrift store!

While dropping off ALL those bags, I spotted a book I loved as a child. So we not only got rid of all that clutter in a place where someone else who needs it can have it, because I didn’t procrastinate, I now get to enjoy some read aloud time with my babies with a book that kept me giggling as a child. Less clutter, more laughter and pleasant moments.  Thank you for becoming a voice in my head of truth and encouragement!
