February Habit #21 What a Fun Afternoon

IMG_5644Dear Friends,

February is Declutter for 15 minutes, and we are going to take full advantage of our time. Monday through Friday this month you will get a new Declutter Mission that follows the Zone we are in. If you have a declutter story or an idea that you have found to be useful please send us an email with MY DECLUTTER STORY in the subject line!

February Declutter Mission: #3 Zone #4

Move to the night stand today and go through one drawer. If you do not have drawers and the night stand is clear of clutter, pick the top drawer of your dresser. I like to play music while I declutter and it seems to make decluttering fun!

Dear FlyLady,

I have a spare bedroom so full of stuff I can not get in it.  My kids have filled it also with their stuff they have outgrown.  I work fulltime as a single parent with my own business outside the home.  Every night after work I resolved to do a pile in the room 15 minutes at a time.   I can now get into this room.  Of course I was going to donate everything to the Salvation Army a few bags at a time.  But in doing so, this very old fiddle that was my grandpas I found in a pile and was about to donate it to charity.  A friend said that case looks very old.  So I took it to an antique place near my work and now everyone is excited to find out if it is trash or treasure, that is the lady that owns the antique store.  So we will be going on an adventure, the antique store owner and myself to find out just what century this fiddle is from.  I have had it for 31 years in an extra spare bedroom.  The lady who owns the store says no matter what the appraiser says, she wants to buy it and the case.  And I thought it was junk.  She said the Salvation Army would have put 10 bucks on it and sold it.  We will see but what a fun afternoon that will be as she is a wonderful Christian lady.  I have made a dear new friend out of this.

Meanwhile, I like being on my computer but that is not the way to move or get things done.  So at the quarter to every hour I go somewhere in my house and do something or go through a pile of stuff to get rid of what we do not use anymore.  My house is starting to look totally different and I am getting much more exercise and have more energy.  This week I worked on kitchen cobwebs and greasy dusty tops of cabinets, 15 minutes at a time, only 2 corners are left to do near my ceilings and the kitchen is done.  I suddenly feel like vacuuming again and putting things away right away.

I also am adding spring to my wardrobe by cleaning out my closet.  I found wonderful dress boots I have never worn.  I found all kinds of different tops with price tags I have never worn but am wearing now.  I am trying to accessorize more, wearing different shoes and boots every day.   The rest are going to charity or a resale shop.  The old big necklaces are back in and look great.  I am adding color to my outfits, all from finding new clothes in the spare bedroom I have never worn.  I went shopping in my closet and did not have to buy a thing.  So now I have my spring in my step back.  My motto for the New Year —  Less is More!
