Purple Rags Confused My Friend

Dear FlyLady,

The other day a friend came over and offered to put some lights in my front window.  I had some hooks to install which I wanted placed directly on the window glass for maximum viewing from outside. I gave her two of my Purple Rags to clean the windows. She used these rags with plain water and cleaned the windows quickly.

When she had finished the cleaning, she did not know what to do with my purple rags.  I asked her to shake them outside and just set them on my washer so I could clean the rags later.

My friend has some microfiber rags that she had bought from some company, and paid big bucks for them.  She has never successfully used her microfiber cloths because she wasn’t sure how to use them and then clean them.  She had heard something about not using certain cleaning products, but could not remember exactly what products these were. So she was afraid to really clean with them.  They were so expensive, she was afraid she might destroy them.

I told her that I don’t use fabric softener when I wash them.  If I have only 1 or 2 rags, like now, I would simply put them into my sink with water and a little liquid hand soap.  After a good rinse, I would hang them on a hanger in the bathroom.  They always come out clean and ready to use again.  I have used them to clean stuff all over my house and my car.  I don’t use heavy duty cleaning products.  Everything always comes out clean, the rags wash so easily, and I have never had even one of these rags become damaged in any way.
