I Hated Cleaning Windows, Till Now

Dear FlyLady,

I ordered a set of purple rags awhile back and love them for cleaning my glass light fixtures.

I HATE cleaning my windows. We have 20 windows (includes 2 sliding doors and three 8×4 foot windows, plus 4 6×6 foot windows). Except for 5 which we recently replaced they ALL have a second storm window on the inside which means I have to clean 4 sides for each window.. UGH.

I remembered how well the purple rags worked on my light fixtures and decided to try them..WOW. Swipe with the cleaning solution and wipe off with a dry purple rag. I didn’t have to rewipe them multiple times trying to clean off all the streaks and my windows are absolutely beautiful. I still have more to wash but you know, it doesn’t seem like such a chore now and I love the clean windows. Maybe I’ll have to do this twice a year (LOL).

I wrote you a couple years ago about 3 trips to CA to clean out my DFIL’s house. I promised to work harder on decluttering my own. Several weeks ago we got a call that my DFIL was in the hospital with a high chance of not making it (He did, but is now home on Hospice care). This was while planning my own mother’s memorial service 2 weeks out so stress was high. Thanks to you we were packed and out the door in 6 hours (driving 550 miles). That may seem long to some of you but for us that was a miracle. I left behind a tidied house so our neighbor could come feed our 3 cats (in the past several weeks wouldn’t have been long enough to make my house look half as good), ran necessary errands, did 2 loads of laundry and packed everything we’d need WITHOUT AN ARGUMENT. If you knew us, you’d know how amazing that was.

My house isn’t always company ready and sometimes I’d rather not let people inside but thanks to you I can actually get it company ready in a timely manner without stressing or yelling at my family. My son even told me one of his friends told him our house was too clean. That was just too funny.

Thanks for being a loving mother to all of us,

Debra in OR

FlyLady here: Debra, I am so proud of you! Packing is a piece of cake when the laundry is done.

Our purple rags make cleaning windows and doors a breeze. If you have a bunch of windows and want to get the winter grunge off of them; just do one window a day. This way you will not kill yourself. This is why we hate cleaning windows; we usually go overboard and do too much and hurt ourselves.

My kitchen windows are tall. I found a great solution to cleaning them. I attached a purple rag to our FlyLady Mop. The result was a clean window without having to climb a ladder to reach the top of them. No more winter grunge on the outside of our windows.
