Dear Friends,

The other day one of our members was having a problem with her Dear Son waking up on the wrong side of the bed. It would take him one hour to get dressed in the morning.He was not a happy camper. She was beside herself. So I told her this story I had heard from a friend of mine who used to teach on an Indian Reservation.

She said:

When I arrived at the reservation for my first day of work, it was very early in the morning. I walked down the street just at dawn. The light was changing. As I walked, I noticed that every other door was open and there was a child sitting in the doorway or on the front porch. All were humming. I could not seem to figure out what was going on. Was this some custom that I had not been told about??? When I got to the school I asked the head master, what was happening.

She Said:

That the mothers tell the children a story when they are very young. The story is about their shadow. During the day your shadow is very good, it stays with you all the time, it jumps when you jump, it runs when you run. At night your shadow, gets to go play the way it chooses. It can play with other shadows. In the morning, when you wake up and are not happy.(cranky) It is because your shadow has not come home yet. So in order for you to feel better, you have to help your shadow to find it’s way home. So the children are instructed to go sit in the doorway and hum until their shadow returns. (it is very hard to be sad when you are humming)

I told my kids the story about humming your shadow back home and wanted to let you know my DS got up this morning and looked for his shadow. LOL it was not there (no lights were on) then he started to hum and kept looking over his shoulder to see if his shadow had come home. I turned on a very bright light and he saw his shadow. It was absolutely priceless he started jumping up and down saying the FlyLady was right! LOOK MOM! The FlyLady was right! My shadow came home! LOOK my shadow came home! He went to school with a smile on his face. Thanks !

This will be short because I am running late and hard to see with tears in your eyes. That has not happened in a while. I did not do anything on my routine except getting dressed and the bathroom stuff. No laundry this morning, no hotspots, no dishes. The reason I have a HAPPY BOY that wanted to play. (He hummed his shadow home again this morning.) So we got down on the floor and played legos. What a blessing you have given me. I am crying now :-}  I just want you to know how much that one little story has meant. Thank you again.
