I’ve been reading FLYLady on and off for over a decade. And even fluttering and floundering, “just” reading works because eventually I’ve realised that I’ve been FLYWashed in the nicest, most helpful and effective way.
I’ve sent several very grateful testimonials. But blessings from this dear Lady and her system keep coming so I’ll keep sending.
15 minutes is my new, daily magic. “Just” 15 minutes. For anything. Paper clutter. Dreaded paperwork. Long unupdated photo albums. Scary under the bed stuff. Frustrating plastics cupboards. Even irritating computer games which I hate but my kids love – I can sit and (pretend) to enjoy their gaming for 15 minutes which expresses that I love them.
So I come to 15 minute loving movement. Yeeeaaars on this clicks. I used to regard, and approach exercise, like housework, in an angry, martyr way. At the begining of May I decided to run three times a week, precisely not the gentle, loving 15 minutes daily that our lovely FLYLady advocates. 2 weeks in and I’m eating more, and sweet things, and hurting more because I haven’t run for years. So this week I started walking. 15 minutes. And not fast, sweaty, beat-myself-up walking. Instead, Finally Loving Myself walking. And yes, I then was tempted to do 3 of these per day. But I stopped myself with Marla’s lovely voice. Just 15 minutes. Every day. From now on.
Because this FLYSystem is about forever. Starting with “just” today. “Just” 15 minutes.
My life keeps getting better. Yes, I admit, more difficult too because I’m realising that my difficult marriage, difficult teens, difficult work life, is not because of my disorganised, unclean house. Now that my home, and increasingly my mind and body are becoming clutter free I’m able to see more clearly some real, deep, painful issues. But now, I have a gentle, loving approach to help me deal with all these new realisations too. And it’s going to be ok.
