Dear Wonderful Flylady,

Thank-you for your help in many areas of my life. My sister passed away earlier this year and it’s been tough going, but I have a household to keep running, a child, a husband and a fur-baby to look after, so I’ve had to keep going. I’ve been doing the absolute minimum of everything in order to not over-load myself and it’s been great to still have a shiny sink, clean bathrooms and food of some sort on the table for each meal (if it’s a ready meal or fast food, I’m not beating myself up for it right now as I’m doing my best.)

What happened last week was the loveliest thing for me though. My spare room was so overwhelmed with stuff, there wasn’t room for a bed in it (it was waist deep in places with boxes of clutter cleared from other areas of the house & set in it till I’d get time to sort through them.) So we invited some friends for dinner on Friday & my husband asked me if we should ask them to stay… Panic, then I calmly said it was a great idea!

Thursday morning I put our dinner in the slow cooker, put the back seats of my car flat for a large charity shop donation load and set my timer for 15 minutes. Each time it rang, I took the trash, recycling and charity bags to the correct place, drank water and then re-set it, with the last 15min of each hour being for fur-baby playtime and re-filling my water bottle.

After 3 hours, I had all of the boxes and bags processed and was ready to hit the recycling center and charity shop on my way to lunch & School pickup. The next morning I set my timer again and took the vacuum cleaner & duster up with me before making a quick trip to IKEA for a new bed for our guests that evening. I did it thanks to knowing how much I could achieve in 15 minutes and also knowing to keep on top of the trash/recycling/rehoming issues as I went along. Thank-you for your help and your permission to not be perfect.

The room wasn’t perfect for our guests, but I showed them a “before” picture and we all laughed at how it had come so far in a few hours of graft! They went home inspired as they are having a house full of guests for Christmas and one of the rooms they need for it is currently in a similar state to mine, so they know how to do it, thanks to your gentle ways.
