Dear FlyLady,

I found your systems about 5 years ago and have been fluttering on and off. Today I had my youngest daughter who is 7 (her dad and I split custody) and I was exhausted (I work graveyard shift). After our Sunday outing I couldn’t help but lay down for a quick snooze. Well I ended up sleeping for 3 hours and when I awoke I felt terribly guilty of all the stuff ‘I should have been doing’ and for not being awake with my darling girl. When she saw I had woken up she proudly announced that she had washed the few dishes in the sink, dried them and put them away. I almost let “stinking thinking” take over (my perfectionism saying she couldn’t have possibly done a good job, now I’m going to have to hunt down the dishes and redo them) when I heard your voice in my ear, “housework done incorrectly still blessed our family”. My eyes teared up as I silently thanked you and then her for her helpfulness. So what if I pulled out a less than sparkling dish from my cupboard? It would take 5 seconds to rinse it off if needed. It was far more important to keep my sweet daughter proud of her helpfulness.
