I Had A Wonderful Day

Dear FlyLady,
Today I had the most wonderful day and it was all because I was dressed to shoes!
I have been Flying for about 5 weeks now. The last few days I haven’t been feeling well so I got a little off track. This morning I woke up to a sink full of dishes for the first time in weeks. I did not like how that made me feel and started to feel like a failure. Then I told myself to stop my “stinking thinking.” I dropped the kids off at school. When I walked in the door and saw the dishes in my non-shiny sink, I told myself I was not behind and need to jump in where I am. So I went to my room and made my bed. Then I swished and swiped the bathroom. Took a shower. Got dressed to shoes, including hair and makeup. Went to the kitchen, put dishes in the dishwasher and shined my sink, which only took 10 minutes. Went downstairs and started the laundry.
I was about to start the weekly home blessing when I got an email from the school asking for the parents to come in and volunteer right away this morning! My 10-year-old daughter’s school was knitting hats today to take to the chemo center and they needed as many parents as possible to come in and help. Since I was already dressed, I was able to get there in 10 minutes.
My daughter was so surprised and happy to see me! She ran and gave me a hug and got me a chair next to her desk. We spent 3 hours knitting. When it was time for her private weekly band lesson, she asked me to go with her. Her teacher has told me many times to go to a lesson with her so he could go over some things with me since it was her first year. After that it was lunch time and she invited me to sit with her. She was so excited and her friends made sure to rearrange where they sat so we could sit together. She wanted me to stay with her the rest of the day, but it was time for the parents to leave.
I know this may not sound like such a big deal, but I normally would not be able to do something like this. In the past, I would have gotten the email and thought there is no way I could make it on such short notice. I would not have been showered and ready to go. I might not have even had clean clothes to wear! Today, my husband was coming home at lunch time to meet a repair man. If my house wasn’t somewhat together, I would have spent the morning moving clutter around so that my husband would not have been embarrassed to bring someone into the house. As it turned out, I was gone hours before they even came and not rushing around trying to make the house presentable.
It feels so good to have been there sharing a special day with my daughter and not at home feeling like I (and she) missed out on something!
I know I have a long way to go and to keep taking my babysteps. When I don’t get to something on the daily missions, I know there will be other chances because I will be working in that zone again in a few weeks.
Thank you FlyLady for making these special moments possible!
