Flying during thanksgiving with three sewer backups

I will spare you the details.  But Wednesday night at 9:30, half of my guests had arrived, the kids were playing in the basement, and I hear, “Mom!  The sewer is backing up!”  My husband actually got it unclogged, I cleaned up and fell into bed.  All my food was thawing in the fridge and ready to go.  The table was set.

The next morning at 8:30, I went down to plug in my turkey fryer and saw the sewer had backed up again.  I was shaking as I told my husband.  I said, I have to know now if we are having lunch here today with the rest of his family arriving at 11:30.  He said yes so I plugged in the turkey fryer.  He focused on unclogging and cleaning and I went to buy more bleach and Clorox wipes….the only things I ran out of ; ).

The only reason we had the best thanksgiving meal I’ve ever made with more people than we ever had from both sides of the family is I started with you getting ready at the beginning of October when you brought it up in your daily videos.  That was earlier than we usually started the cruising through the holidays, and I needed the extra time.  Everything except my turkey was done and in the freezer, or ready in the fridge to put on the table.  The turkey itself and the turkey fryer were prepped and ready to go.

After lunch we had one more backup and I was about ready to cry and my overnight company was ready to leave.  My husband stepped in and assured us all it was going to be ok.  And it was.  By this time we were very efficient with the bleach and learned some things about our plumbing in the process.  It is Sunday today and we have been clog free since Thursday afternoon.  We’ve also eaten extremely well.  If I had not had everything done, I would have cancelled thanksgiving and sent everyone to a restaurant, and most of my food would have been wasted.

I’ve been flying with you since my mom died in’09 and hosting thanksgiving and Easter.  I’ve needed you every year, but especially this year.
