My Dear Husband is Getting It

Dear FlyLady,

DH is getting it!! He’s been listening…sort of! The funniest thing happened tonight and I decided I had to share it with you!

A lot is happening in our house right now. We’ve decided we need to move to be closer to DH’s work and because it’s time to downsize our house. We have 5 DC (dear children); 3 out on their own, one DD in college and a 14yo DS. We have only lived in this HUGE house  5 years, (3 levels of 1200 sq ft each, one of which is a finished attic with 2 rooms and a full bathroom!) but its size has been a Godsend from time to time when the 3 older ones have needed a place to land for a few months (thankfully one at a time!)

Normally at this point i would be in a panic. WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH ALL THIS STUFF??!! I’m still just fluttering, but I’m trying, and in my MIND I’m getting there. I’ve been reading all the emails and doing some of the missions. I know i have to get into some serious routines to make this move happen. After all, I’m not as young as I was with the last few moves, and stuff has accumulated again!

Each of the 3 DC who no longer live here left some of their stuff behind…after all, why should they clutter THEIR spaces, right?! LOL! I’ve decided to give them each a deadline to get their belongings out of here, or it will find its way into the huge garage sale/donation pile. Meanwhile, DS is helping me as we start to sort and declutter stuff in the main house in anticipation of the move, even though it will be at least 6 months away.

DH is behind me 100% and is very encouraging. He gave me several items from the Flyshop for Christmas, and I’m SOOOOO excited to have them!! The feather duster is GORGEOUS!! I LOVE IT!! I bought a pretty little vase to put it in and found some pretty stones to put in the vase to make it stand up! The purple rags are AWESOME!! DD dyed her hair blue, and after she rinsed it out, there were blue spatters all over the shower wall that I didn’t find until the next day, but the purple rags took the stains off!! My bathroom mirror also shines more than EVER BEFORE!!

So, in trying to educate DH on my plans, I’ve told him about the different zones and with his crazy work schedule, I’ve encouraged him to lay out his clothes for tomorrow before he goes to bed, and put anything else he needs in one place and call it a Launch Pad.

Today I printed out the pages for College student control journal and Student control journal. Before DS went to bed, I asked him if he did his before bed routine: what are you wearing tomorrow? Where is the stuff you need for school? etc….

DH piped up and said, “Put it all in your ATTACK ZONE

That totally cracked me up!!! But I thought, you know, he’s really pretty accurate!! It’s where we grab our stuff to “attack” the day!!!

Thank you so very much for all your help and advice and encouragement!! I absolutely hate moving, but I think I can do this, because you’re on my shoulder urging me on! I’d appreciate prayers from anyone who wants to send them as we do this! On top of all the decluttering and normal stuff, there are repairs and cosmetic projects that I’ll need to do also as we get ready to move out of here…and I’m not getting any younger!

Feather dusting my whole house takes 2 minutes.  In this video I am showing you how to dust; it took longer than 2 minutes!
