Dear FlyLady,
I have been flying almost 20 years with a stint before that with Pam and Peggy which I worked successfully until a major move and life change into a new state, profession and house. The house was a major project and I did not love it and I got derailed.
Suffice to say my sister eventually told me about Flylady. I was so disheartened by then and did not trust myself that I only shined my sink and made my bed for a whole year before attempting further.
I did grab hold and swish and swipe and the notion of cleaning by routines transformed my life. Instead of waiting until it was dirty to clean.
I have soared for many years. So long I do recall the last time I did a project clean of a bathroom. Otherthan a family accident.
On to my main reason for testiflying: Even my archnemesis paper clutter has slowly yielded from an annual purge of extra large tubs to no junk mail has a right to space in my house to most things filed much of the time.
Even so a paper hot spot develops on my dining room table. Which otherwise is very fly.
And a small work surface in basement room. Originally intended to stand up and pay bills etc.
I don’t like desks except in theory.
And sometimes things not filed or dealt with right away because I resisted or they were truly pending.
I resolved to get a grip by joining in hard with October’s Habit.
Certainly the encouragement helped me clear those surfaces and get caught up on my put aways. I just so rebel against dealing with paper. I listened to some Flylady paper declutter videos.
Little did I know that after all this time a new lightbulb would come on!
The key for me to not have to deal with a paper clutter hotspot on the table ever again!
In one of those videos you answered someones question about how to eliminate table paper hotspots and the answer was The Do It Now Principle!
Of course! So now I take maybe 1 or 2 necessary keepers right down to my standup desk and either process it right away back to mail or pin it up as pending on my corkboard or put it away in my appropriate ringbinder. Ringbinders are on shelf below for tax papers and banking and also my Control Journal and Holiday Control Journal and Pet Info .
Done!
Amazing.
A new habit!
And if that wasn’t enough I actually decluttered some old empty ringbinders. I kept a few of the best.
But this is groundbreaking!
You often remark on how we love office supplies
“My name is______ and I love office supplies.”
So to discard extras is like beyond amazing. If they were good enough I would have donated as I regularly do.
Anyhow I am so thrilled.
New ground!
New freedom.
Less dread.
I faced even those little paper hotspots with dread.
All gone!
Yup.
Now I am armed to do further purging of stored extra office supplies at my not at home office.
It is perfectly good but if I don’t need it then its clutter. I saw it as frugal and saving.
But 4 lifetime supplies of staples, paper clips, pens and rubberbands? No.
Thank you for all you do!
Repetition of what works is never in vain.
